SANCTUARY of LA VERNA
“Be Praised, my Lord, for our mother earth”.
In summer 1224, St. Francis retired on Mount La Verna for a period of silence and prayer, during which he lived the pain of the Passions of Christ and received the stigmata.
The Chapel of the Stigmata was built and, after that, various places dedicated to reflection and prayer were added, until the construction of the Basilica, dedicated to the Madonna Assunta and enriched with Della Robbia’s works of art.
A fascinating place, surrounded by the beauty of nature, that explodes into a monumental forest of firs and beeches, a place where you can feel peace and a kind of ancient and mysterious spirituality, especially at dusk, when an almost supernatural silence arises.
SANTUARIO di La VERNA
“Laudati sii, mi Signore, per nostra madre terra”.
Nell'estate del 1224, San Francesco si ritirò sul Monte della Verna per un periodo di silenzio e preghiera, durante il quale, vivendo il dolore della Passione di Cristo, ricevette le stimmate. Dopo che fu eretta la Cappella delle Stimmate, si aggiunsero nel tempo altri luoghi dedicati alla riflressione ed alla preghiera, fino alla Basilica dedicata alla Madonna Assunta, impreziosita da opere di Della Robbia.
Un luogo ricco di fascino, circondato dalla bellezza della natura che esplode nella foresta monumentale di abeti e faggi, dove si respira una pace ed una spiritualità antica e misteriosa, specie quando all'imbrunire si accompagna un silenzio quasi innaturale.
