THE THROW OF CHEESE WHEEL

As the protagonist in the typical basket of the local tradition in Garfagnana (Lucca), 
the cheese goes beyond the mere function as food and source of sustenance for the past generations. 
It becomes a sport, a challenge for the people, and an opportunity for them to get together, 
with the competition “The throw of cheese wheel".
There are specific rules: different categories according to the weight of the cheese 
and the competition takes place on country roads or on specific launching pads. 
The participants, after a short run with a strap wrapped around the cheese, throw the cheese wheel. 
As tradition wants, the winner takes home the cheese and buys a glass of wine to all the opponents.
Although the cheese might break into pieces and then be tasted by everyone, audience included!

Protagonista del paniere tipico della tradizione locale, in Garfagnana il formaggio và oltre l'aspetto del cibo

e di una fonte di sostentamento per le generazioni passate, e diventa sport, sfida , e occasione di aggregazione,

grazie alle gare del "Lancio della Forma".

C'è un preciso regolamento, una suddivione in categorie a seconda del peso della forma, e le gare si svolgono

su strade campestri o su vere e proprie piste di lancio.

Con una fettuccia arrotolata intorno al formaggio, la forma, dopo una breve rincorsa, viene lanciata, e la tradizione

vuole che chi vince porta a casa la forma e offra un bicchiere di vino agli avversari.

Semprechè la forma non si spezzi durante la gara, e diventi un assaggio per i presenti, spettatori compresi !
